Classical Theater Festival in Tindari and Taormina

"Il teatro dei Due Mari" is a theater project that puts classic plays on the stage in the ancient Greek-Roman theaters in Tindari and Taormina.

Ionian and Tyrrhenian. The Festival's name "Il Teatro dei due Mari" is a play on this contrast; the Festival wishes to create a connection between the two archaeological sites in Eastern Sicily and to repromote classical theater plays, helped by the awesome power of the locations that the plays are staged in.

The festival is held in the month of May in Tindari and across August and September in Taormina. Each year, the festival consists of two plays, that alternate in periods in the ancient theaters in Taormina and in Tindari. The plays are staged without the help of any vocal amplification or support lights, to make them as authentic as possible.

The two themes of the 2008 Festival are Edipo by Seneca and Giulio Cesare by William Shakespeare.
