WOMAD 2008 - Music, Arts and Dance in Taormina

WOMAD in Sicily from July 25 to 27. Three nights of concerts in the marvelous setting of the Greek Theater, atop the hill that dominates Taormina and its bay. In this unique place, considered the cradle of classic and Mediterranean civilization, different types of music, arts and dances from cultures the world over are celebrated. Internationally recognized groups will be playing with the suggestive and still fuming Aetna in the background.

WOMAD is the acronym for World of Music, Arts and Dance: the name suggests the mission the foundation has of encouraging reciprocal knowledge among nations via the different art forms, dispelling the rationale behind racist ideology.

Although WOMAD has headquarters in Great Britain, it has a nomadic identity. It gradually evolved in the '80s with its first events taking place in Denmark and Canada. Today it is a world institution present at many festivals every year throughout the world: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, United Kingdom, and of course Sicily.
